- Dear NCERA-148 Members and Participants:
I am pleased to invite you to the annual meeting of NCERA-148: Migration and Dispersal of Agriculturally Important Biota, which will be held at the The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, (www.theinnatvirginiatech.com) on the campus of Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, Virginia.
The meeting will convene at 8:15 am on Tuesday, October 20, and adjourn at noon on Wednesday, October 21. A working draft of the Agenda is attached. The meeting will be organized into four thematic areas: pathogens, arthropods, population genetics, and information systems for aerobiology and biosecurity. We welcome suggestions for other thematic areas please email them to me. Also, please email your presentation title and thematic area in which you would like to be placed by September 1. This will give us time to organize the agenda.
Graduate student presentations have also been recently added to our meeting, and we would like to continue this. Please email me the names and titles of talks of graduate students who would like to present by September 1.
In 2009, wed like to add an informal poster session coupled to socializing and dinner on Tuesday evening. We are working out arrangements for this at a local microbrewery.
Hotel and local arrangements are being organized by David Schmale. Weve booked 25 rooms at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, at 901 Prices Fork Road, with the Federal and State government lodging rate of $100/night. The contact number is 540-231-0120, with the event name NCERA - 148. The meeting will take place in the Skelton Conference Center, with continuous refreshment service starting at 7:30 am on both days, and lunch on October 20. Registration costs for the meeting space, breakout rooms, and meals are $85/person. Air transportation is typically through Roanoke, Virginia (airport code ROA), with shuttle service by the Skelton Conference Center for $30. Flying in to Charlotte, North Carolina (airport code CLT) is an option, and is a 2.5 hour drive from Blacksburg. Additional details on local arrangements will be forthcoming. Immediately following the meeting, there will be a tour of Virginia Techs Kentland Farm and the New River. If we have a nice sunny day, David Schmale will coordinate a demonstration of his autonomous unmanned aircraft at the Kentland Farm. Also, this 3rd week in October is peak fall foliage season in the Blacksburg area, which is also about 30 miles from the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway.
Please RSVP Andy Michel michel.70@osu.edu by July 31 if you plan to attend.
Thank you very much, and I look forward to seeing you all in Blacksburg!
Sincerely,
Shelby Fleischer

- Dear NCERA-148 Members and Participants:
I am pleased to invite you to the annual meeting of NCERA-148: Migration and Dispersal of Agriculturally Important Biota, which will be held at the Center for Plant Health Science and Technology on NC State's Centennial Campus, in Raleigh, NC.
The meeting of the full group of NCERA-148 will convene at 8:00 Thursday morning, Oct. 16, and will adjourn about noon on Friday, Oct. 17. A first draft of the Agenda will soon be released; although it is a draft at this point it will give you an idea of the projected time frame and structure of the meeting. This year we are inviting you to submit your state report (if possible) as part of one of four thematic areas: pathogens, arthropods, genetics and computer information systems. Please email John Westbrook (John.Westbrook @ars.usda.gov) by July 31 with your presentation title and the thematic area to which you would like to assign your presentation. Other components of the meeting will focus on a discussion of future directions, Lepidopteran Aerobiology Modeling System (LAMS) and graduate student presentations. We will also have an organized group dinner on Thursday night.
Hotel and local arrangements are being organized by Roger Magarey. There are no hotels within walking distance of the meeting so we have made arrangements for participants to stay in the popular Crabtree Valley area. We have booked a block of 25 rooms at the Crabtree Valley, Homewood Suites. The Federal and State Government Per Diem is $89.00. The contact number is (919) 785-1131. The group code is 148. You may choose to stay at any hotel if you have your own transportation. If you require transportation and wish to stay at an alternative hotel in Crabtree Valley, please check with Roger Magarey. More details on local arrangements will be sent later.
Please RSVP Roger Magarey (Roger.D.Magarey@aphis.usda.gov) if you plan to attend by July 31.
Sincerely, John K. Westbrook, Chairman
