Most commonly used airports are: Atlanta-Hartsfield, which is 1.5 hours from Auburn; Montgomery, AL airport, which is about 1 hour from Auburn; and the Columbus, GA airport, which is about 45 minutes from Auburn. The Auburn University Hotel and Conference Center is located on South College Street directly across from the Auburn University Campus in downtown Auburn.

Diane Hite (hitedia@auburn.edu; 334.844.5655) is the local arrangement and program chair. The objective of SERA 30 is to provide a scientific/professional forum to facilitate the exchange of theoretical, applied, and methodological approaches to natural resource economics, and to nurture the development of original concepts and preliminary research and Extension efforts related to natural resource economics.

Themes for this year's meeting are the economics of homeland security and the economics of invasive species. The homeland security topic will be broadly defined, including but not limited to areas such as food security and climate. Papers on research and extension activities related to the focus areas are invited. Two authors will be chosen for keynote presentations and awarded up to $500 each for travel expenses.

Additional Info:
This year's meeting will be hosted by Florida A&M University (FAMU) and will meet in Tallahassee, Florida on May 19th and 20th. As we discussed during the 2004 business meeting, the two primary topics will be "The Economics of Environmental Justice" and "The Economics of Water Quality." Of course, as part of a long standing tradition and space permitting, we are open to just about any paper in area of natural resources economics.

One of the principal reasons for this year's choice of topics is our hope to draw some additional local interest. FAMU is an HBCU and 1890 Land Grant institution and supports centers of Water Quality and Environmental Justice and Equity. This presents our group an opportunity to demonstrate the importance of economics in these fields and a chance to connect with 1890 researchers.

If you would like to present a paper during our meeting, please send me an abstract by March 15, 2005. Be certain to include the paper's title, author(s) affiliations and contact information (email too). While it would be nice if your final paper (AJAE format) is ready by the May presentation, however, we can wait until sometime in June if necessary.

Also, please inform me if you plan to attend without presenting a paper. The registration cost is undetermined at this point and will depend on the number of people we have attending, but it should be close to our historic amounts (between $100 and $150) and will include all meals with Thursday's dinner at the historic Wakulla Springs Lodge located about 25 miles south of Tallahassee in the Wakulla Springs State Park see://www.abfla.com/parks/Wakulla/wakulla.html).

We are planning to meet at the Doubletree Hotel located in downtown Tallahassee and will try to reserve a block of rooms at a special government rate. I will send you additional information on the room charge soon, along with a more definitive registration cost. There are several other choices of hotels/motels in the Tallahassee area and plenty of activities in the area should you wish to bring your family along (see http://www.seetallahassee.com/Default.asp).

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me, (850)294-0211.
