Dear All: Please find attached lodging and travel information (and tentative agenda) for the NC1042 Technical Committee Meeting to be held in College Park, MD. You need to make your lodging reservations by September 20 with Globe Trotter Management Services rather than directly with the Holiday Inn. Instructions are provided in the attached. Because of the lodging contractual agreement, I need to keep a close tab on the number of room reservations. I have attached the information you have supplied to me. If there are any changes, please let me know because the contract calls for fulfilling an expected number of rooms. The last date I have a chance to alter the number of rooms needed is August 30. The farm tour is tentatively planned. For planning departure, we should finish with the last stop and lunch at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 15. The last farm visit is Prigel Family Creamery, 4851 Long Green Rd, Glen Arm, MD 21057, and is 30 miles from Baltimore Washington International (BWI) Airport. Tentatively, I have 3 farm visits planned: 7-8 a.m. USDA Beltsville Dairy Farm Erin Connor, USDA Research Molecular Biologist, Grow Safe System Stephanie Lansing, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Technology, Low cost manure digester 9-10 a.m. Maple Dell Farm, 2170 Daisy Road, Woodbine, MD 21797. Patrick Family. Very successful Maryland dairy farm family with registered Aryshire and Holstein Cattle. http://remsberg.com/soundbooks/patrick/ 11-1 p.m. (including lunch) Prigel Family Creamery. Direct marketing of farm to consumer dairy products. Grazing dairy with crossbred cattle. website:http://www.prigelfamilycreamery.com/Prigel_Family_Creamery/Welcome.html If there are any questions, please let me know. Bob

Travel: By air: a. You can fly into Boise, ID and rent a car. Boise is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours south east from Twin Falls (its all Interstate freeway driving). b. Fly directly into the Twin Falls airport (airport is approx. 10 miles away). . I know you can go through Salt Lake City (there may be other ways) and I know SkyWest (Delta) flies directly to Twin Falls. There may be other carriers that I am not aware of. You can then either rent a car or catch a taxi (no shuttle). I would estimate the taxi at around $15, but cant verify. Drive: I-84 is a major freeway that goes past Twin Falls and may be faster than flying for those who are close enough. I would suggest car pooling if you can.

The meeting will be in the heart of the BC dairy industry, Agassiz, B.C., located near the scenic Fraser Valley. The meeting itself will be held at the UBC Dairy Education and Research Centre. This is a new facility and the University has generously offered to provide us this technically well equipped room at no cost. Our hotel is located about 10 minutes from the Education and Research Centre. I would recommend arriving October 13, 2009 and if you stay for the farm tours fly out Saturday October 17th, 2009.

One unfortunate circumstance of this location is that it is a moderately long distance from any good airport, thus requiring us to rent vehicles to get to our lodging and meeting location.

On the flip side there are two major positives: 1) Were close to some great dairy farms; and 2) Harrison Hot Springs is a lovely area with some great restaurants and would be a place that spouses may also enjoy travelling too.

Air travel suggestions: The closest major airport is Vancouver International (YVR). I think almost all major US airlines fly into here. From Vancouver you will need to drive about two hours to Harrison Hot Springs.

Other options may be to fly into either: a. Bellingham, WA (BLI). From here you will need to rent a car, cross the US-Canadian border by land and drive 1.5 h to Harrison Hot Springs.

b. Seattle, WA (SEA) From here you will need to rent a car, cross the US-Canadian border by land and drive 3 h to Harrison Hot Springs.

In the very near future it may be possible to fly into Abbotsford, BC (YXX). Recently Southwest airline announced to will partner with a Canadian regional airline called West Jet. If this option is available to you it would be by far the easiest. One disclaimer: I personally know nothing about the logistics from getting to Abbotsford BC from either option a or b.

Accommodations: The Executive Hotel in Harrison Hot Springs. I have reserved a block of rooms at the hotel. The hotels physical address is as follows:

The Executive Hotel Box 70. 190. Lillooet Avenue. Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. V0M1K0 Ph 604-796-555 The hotel has the following URL: http://www.harrisonhotsprings.com/

When making reservations call Front Desk & Reservations toll free at 1-888-265-1155 or local 604-7965555. When speaking with a representative cite the following Master Reservation number: # 988852. I negotiated single occupancy to be $75.95 and double to be $85.95. Please make your reservation ASAP as they will open us any unbooked room from this block 30 days prior to check-in.
